Examples of our work

For us, there is no such thing as a ‘typical project’. The business problems we support our clients with may be specific questions regarding, for example, investment decisions or pricing policy. Our capability to predict cycles is of high interest to our clients as operational decisions are quite often linked to timing of market turning points. To some clients we provide a more comprehensive service including business tools for planning and budgeting as well as systems view market analysis. Please take a look at the examples below to get a practical view.

Support with a difficult decision

October 2009, time was running out for a 10 billion euro industrial corporation for making a tough decision on the fate of two production plants.  Earlier in the year, soft prices and an oversupplied market had forced the two plants down.  As winter’s coming would freeze the plants’ pipes, the company had to decide whether to re-start the plants or close them forever.

Market prices had increased for the past 6 months and six of seven market forecasters were predicting that upward trend would end in December.  STE, however, had a different view. The STE model indicated that the market would remain in a sellers’ mode and prices would keep rising well beyond the end of the year. Read more and find out what happened next

New market model development project

Over the years, we have developed close to 40 market models in co-operation with our clients. While many of our new clients utilize our existing models, a typical way to begin working together is building a predictive model of their business. Building a model for a dynamic market is carried out in three steps:

  1. Collection of data and market understanding
  2. Model development
  3. Tool development and model utilization

Understanding the real market drivers

Most of our long-term customers consider the new market understanding we bring very valuable, even the most important deliverable. In words of one of our customer: “By far the most important aid and biggest profit improvement for us came from the understanding of the fundamentals of the price dynamics and from throwing away some long-held misconceptions about the market.  Though the market forecast was accurate, its importance was lesser.” Read more and discover one way to benefit from market understanding
